On Sunday 21 Feb., 2010; the NILE-COM Chair Prof. Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Din Allam hosted in his office a high-level delegation from the Transportation Syndicates from most of the Nile Basin Countries. The delegation arrived to Egypt as per furnished invitation from the counterpart Transportation Syndicate of Egypt. They received an overview of the regional cooperation state in the Nile Basin under the evolving cooperation agreements that havebeen crowned by the Nile Basin Initiative since February 1999.

The constructive dialogue and discussions among the delegation members and their colleagues from Egypt resulted in the proposal of establishing Transportation Syndicates Forum from the Nile Basin Countries as a mechanism for more interaction, awareness raising, good water culture and practice learning and exchange, and cooperation between the workers, technicians and specialists working in the transportation sector in the Nile Basin; as well as the already established Fora for Agriculture Sector Workers; Irrigation Sector Workers, Trade Sector Workers, and the Regional Forum for Workers Union in the Nile Basin
Egypt showed its sincere intention to support the new Forum with all means of support. The following meeting among the Transportation Syndicates from most of the Nile Basin Countries is scheduled in late April 2010 for initiating the roadmap and workplan aiming at realizing the new Transportation Syndicates Forum. The Workers University in Cairo will open its doors for the interested workers from the sister riparian states. During the meeting, there was a call for investors and development partners to support this constructive initiative by all possible mean to assure its success.
The NILE-COM Chair expressed the will of all Nile-Council of Ministers of Water Affairs to reach one unit, one vision in the Nile Basin and for a long cooperation in the Nile Basin. His Excellency further stated that the achievements of the efforts under the Nile Basin Initiative have been extraordinary, unprecedented, and that, the Ministers of the Nile Basin States, are in charge to work hard, hand in hand, to build the trust and the relationships needed for the sustainable development in the Basin.
