INTERNATIONAL CONREFERENCE ANNOUCEMENT
2008  NILE BASIN DEVELOPMENT FORUM, KHARTOUM, SUDAN

The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources and Ministry of Environment and Physical Development of Sudan and its partners is organizing an international conference, the second Nile Basin Development Forum.
Theme:
 “Environment and water resources management for peace and cooperation in the Nile Basin"
 Venue and Location:
The NBDF 2008 will be held in Khartoum for three days; November 3-5 2008

Registration:

Acceptance will be on first come first serve basis. No registration fee is levied. All participants except those officially invited by the organizers will cover their own participation cost.

Participants:
The conference is open to national governments, regional development planners, river basin organizations, water resources and environment managers, planners, researchers and practitioners, IWRM practitioners, representatives of regional and international organizations, development partners and civil society groups.

25th Nile-TAC Meeting Ends in Kampala
The 5th Steering Committee meeting of the Shared Vision Program (SVP) and the 25th Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) opened on 21st April, 2008 with SVP Steering Committee Meeting that was opened by the Executive Director of the Nile Basin Initiative Mr. Audace Ndayizeye, and was attended by the Nile-TAC members from all the NBI countries, Development Partners represented the World Bank and staff of the Nile Basin Initiative Secretariat.

The Steering Committee Meeting discussed the 2008 work plan and budget, status of implementation of SVP mainstreaming strategy and action plan, among other issues.

The Nile-TAC meeting took place on the 22nd April, 2008 and discussed the Nile Basin Initiative Secretariat (Nile-SEC) management and financial status, the NBI annual report, and status of preparation on the Institutional Strengthening Project (ISP) among other items.

The Steering Committee and Nile-TAC meeting was followed by the Nile Basin Trust Fund (NBTF) meeting which took placefrom 23rd -26th April, 2008.

The NBTF was established by the International Consortium for cooperation on the Nile (ICCON) as a streamlined, cost effective vehicle to administer the funds received from the donor community and it is administered by the World Bank.
